On A Health Kick

As many of you may know, I have been on a health kick the last 5.5 years.  I had bariatric surgery right before the pandemic hit in 2019, luckily.  Since then I have lost over 200 lbs.  Part of that kind of surgery is that you agree to lifetime vitamins and lab work.

Up until the last couple months, I rarely took my vitamins and rarely did my blood work to find out where I was.  When I did my first set after weight loss surgery, a whopping 2 years after my bariatric surgery, I discovered I was highly deficient on everything, so much so that duodenal switch peers before me thought I should be dead or in the hospital being fed through a tube in my stomach.  That still didn’t get me into gear.

I did start working on getting more protein in, so as not to have muscle loss, and I’ve done really well at that. I decided to get my blood work done to see where I was, because I vowed that 2025, I was going to start doing what I needed to do.

I wanted to be prepared to have plastic surgery to remove excess skin and everything else.  So I knew I needed to get things up to par for that surgery.  I did my labs again, and found they were indeed much better than the first set, but still had quite a few things to work on.  So I hopped right in and what do ya know…….. taking vitamins hasn’t been as dreadful as I thought all those years.

I had such anxiety over taking pills since 2002, due to my first weight loss surgery (Vertical Banded Gastroplasty) that failed me and so many other people, that I was never able to hold pills down.

So, in the last 2 months, I hit my weight loss goal of 145 lbs, and I started on the whole slew of vitamins, which hasn’t been terrible at all.  My duodenal switch peers before me made the vitamin regimen look so daunting, but based on my labs, I didn’t need everything they suggested.

I have yet to have my new labs done and plan to again in the next few months, and hopefully see vast improvement in my levels.

I’m very excited for the future – – getting my labs perfect or as close to perfect as possible and having my plastic surgery.

I do pay for these out of pocket, due to my health insurance not paying for anything obesity or bariatric surgery related.
